Simply lovely. He does the screaming bit to absolute perfection.

Momentous... Well... Moments

It's been an eventful week, to say the least. As my powers grow "fast and furiously" - or so it feels to unready me - and Spiderman is always right, with great power does come great responsibility, this seems to be a fitting place to record the events of the last few days.

Last Saturday, 24 May 2008. Mass call. Nothing insanely grand, but instead a very efficient movement of 216 newly qualified members of the bar. Swimming around in a court gown that was technically meant for a much smaller person but still felt so damn big and flouncy, taking a handful of photos, and a celebratory lunch of sorts with the parents at Beach Road Prawn Mee, and it was all over.

Monday, 26 May 2008. Back to work as a true advocate and solicitor, but not yet a practicing member of the bar. Somewhere stuck in the middle where I'm designated "Associate" but am quite happy to not have to bill or sign off on anything.

Wednesday, 28 May 2008. Practising Certificate is efiled. OMG, I have been what my firm likes to call "Unleashed on the Unsuspecting Public". Since PC only arrives at 5:30 pm, I am able to avoid doing the world any disservice. For now.

Thursday, 29 May 2008. NQL (Newly Qualified Lawyers) celebrations. All in good fun, poor Joseph is bullied into doing a live rendition of Video Killed the Radio Star, with Ramesh as reluctant backup. Weiheng has an unfortunately vegetarian experience, after being so clever as to tell admin that he'd prefer not to have pork on his menu. The Chinese restaurant didn't serve halal, of course, so it was veggies all night until a partner left and he started looting from the extra food.

Friday, 30 May 2008. After spending a hopelessly uneventful morning and afternoon, it all culminated in MY FIRST EMAIL TO CLIENT and MY FIRST LETTER TO OPPOSING COUNSEL. Many thanks to Eunice for giving me just about all my big opportunities throughout pupillage and beyond. Still shaking from the stress of responsibility, and I can imagine all the more senior people looking me and clucking their teeth and thinking how amusing the young and innocent can be.

I think I'm growing up. Being a lawyer is a growing up thing. You're not going to be ready for it, but it's going to happen anyway. Might as well enjoy the ride.

Why Doesn't My Afternoon of Indulgence Produce Anything Like This?

Oh yes, that's right, I'm not a Grammy-winning, platinum-selling, acoustic sensitive / blues / rock musician.

If you haven't figured out who that is in this humble home video, shame on you. "Too lazy to learn it" my ass, he's just showing off. sad Here's the original blog post revealing all.

I NOT ROBOT

Dear Everyone,

I've been holding off on taking this step for a long time, but the Spam Bots appear to have won. From now on, I'm going to have to trouble you to take an extra step before leaving a comment. You'll start out the usual way, but right after you click submit, you'll be taken to this ugly page (because I have not yet managed to make it all CSS-Y and pretty), and prompted to key in the magic phrase:

"I NOT ROBOT"

After which, your beloved webmistress will finally be able to read your message without fear of encountering deranged sounding advertisements regarding drugs to make you last ten times longer or gang bangs with pulchritudinous Russian hotties.

So with that, happy commenting!

Love,
Me
